i’m published!
Geek Squad and Wired magazine did a “How-To” segment in this month’s issue.(August 2006) Just after the 100th page, is a “How-To” pull out book, with tons of Geek Squad content. I have a full page for my U2 tour stint, and for a tech tip I submitted. Anyhow, here’s a JPG Scanned from the magazine. There’s lots of other good content, so rush out and buy this month’s copy of Wired.
tobacco heritage days
This past weekend (July 21-23) was Tobacco Heritage Days in my hometown of Edgerton, WI. Jen and went home to see my family and to partake in some of the festivities. Friday night we hung out at my parent’s house and my brother stopped in at the start of 3rd shift for the EPD. Saturday morning Jen and I got up and went to watch the big wheel races that were being held for kids at the High School which is just on the other side of my parent’s backyard. It was as interesting, but we missed the really little kids, and they’re the best because they go the wrong way, hit each other and fall off sometimes. I did get a picture of one real contender. Saturday night we had a water balloon fight and delicious fish dinner at my brother’s house in nearby Janesville. After the kids went to bed we went across the street to his neighbors for a “bonfire” in the driveway. Sunday was lazy and we just went and watched the parade. Saw some cool things there, like a 4×4 golf cart and the “Bucket Brigade” from the New Glarus Fire Dept. The do tricks and climb ladders in the middle of the road. I also got to take my nephew Daiten for a ride on the Chappy, a moped that was my grandpas before he passed away. It was a good weekend and relaxing. Always good to hang out with my family. Here’s some pictures.
pirates of the carribean 2 - dead man’s chest [movie]
jen and i went and saw “Pirates of the Carribean 2 - Dead Man’s Chest” this evening. it was alright, not as good as the first one, but still pretty good. a lot of the characters were back from the first one, and some new cg heavy characters took the spotlight as “bad guys”. if you enjoyed the first one you’ll likely enjoy this one, however, it’ll probably be just as good on dvd. if you’re going to go see it in the theater, maybe a matinee is a good idea
quick trip to paynesville
some of jen’s family from out of town were visiting paynesville. we decided to go up and see them. it was pretty fun and we went out on the boat saturday for water skiing and tubing. i water skied for the first time and was doing ok. the first try i basically just flipped over and got the skis ripped off me. the second try i got up but then fell down, and the third try i was up and stayed up for quite a while. after that it was all tricks and flips. i hit the 14 foot just and landed back in the boat, to flip back out and keep skiing. ok, so the last part didn’t happen, but i did get outside the wake and ski on the outside of the turn. it was pretty fun, but i’m kind of sore today. it was all a good time, and i took some pictures, so i’ll share them here.

devil wears prada [movie]
so jen dragged me to see “The Devil Wears Prada” last night. there wasn’t really any dragging, i agreed to go. after all she went along with me to superman returns. gotta be a team player. turns out that this movie is really quite good. meryl streep did a wonderful job, and you really had to hate her at times. the movie also features adrien grenier, who plays “Vincent Chase” on HBO’s “Entourage” and anne hathaway from “The Princess Diaries” and “Brokeback Mountain”. the cool part about this movie is that they were filming it in new york while i was there. i just happened to be in the SOHO area and there were all these lighting and film trucks around and lit street scenes and such. seems funny now, but they told us it was “devil wears prada” then, and i recognized the title because jen read the book. anyhow, if you read the book, work in fashion or are a girl (or dating one) this is a good movie to see.

4th of july
jen and i are heading out for traverse city, michigan this evening. we’re heading to the home of one of our friends, emily (jefferson) wilson. it’s an 11 hour trip by car, so the plane tickets were a smart purchase. we’re going for a weekend of boating, drinking and the cherry festival. us navy blue angels are doing the airshow on saturday and sunday so that will be cool to see. we’ll probably go boating sunday or monday, and that should be a good time. all in all there are 6 of us, jen, emily, george, eric, jonah and myself. i’ll post some pics hopefully, if we get any good ones.
